Influences for our opening

We have decided to change our trailer opening from the time lapse in London to a similar opening to 'Orange is The New Black':

This use of 'police shots' will be used in our trailer, however we will be taking the idea from a different concept. Instead of photographing the criminals, we will be taking pictures of the victims. This will then be between short videos or photos of the same person being followed.

We hope to also use this sort of lighting as we think it would create more tension and make the shots more realistic.

Interstellar Analysis

Today we watched the interstellar trailer and then analysed it into 4 sections: Camerawork, Mise En Scene, Sound and then drawings of 4 shots we believe were significant.
I found this exercise very helpful as it enabled me to focus on elements which make the trailer effective. This will also help me in our trailer as I could possibly use some of the main features found in this product and incorporate it into our own.

What Trailers Have Helped Us Create Our Final Piece?

These are a couple of the most influential trailers we have found during our production:

The Boy Next Door was the most influential for our choice of narrative. We were drawn to the idea of a psychotic male antagonist who is 'obsessed' with a female character. We will potentially also use their idea of presenting the 'dark' character as a protagonist during the start before gradually introducing his real personality to the audience.

Broadchurch, however influnced it more in the feel and the look. We were interested in how the programme was created to be as relatable as possible by using real locations and characters, creating  more emotional effect on its viewers.

Trailer Inspiration

Today, i analysed 'The Boy Next Door' trailer as some aspects, particularly the psychotic male protagonist, are similar to what we intend to achieve in our product.

Final Company Name

We have decided to name our company, 'Skyline Productions' which will be presented with a background of London's skyline.

We chose this name as we believed it created a sophisticated but simple image. It also presented our idea that we are a 'open-minded' team which corresponds with the skyline.

What actors are we looking for?

In order to make our trailer as successful as possible we need to be very specific in the characters we need:

Our main antagonist, the male character is someone is infatuated with girls who have brunette hair so all our female actors we use will have this colour hair to indicate that this kind of situation has happened before.

Our main girl will also have similar characterstics:
-brunette hair
-17/18 years old ( we thought this would be a good choice as our target audience will be able to relate to someone of this age)
-natural looking with minimal makeup
-smaller than our male actor so that dominance is obvious.

We aim for our male character to be:
-also brunette
-17/18years old or possibly older if we are able to find a suitable actor
-someone with a slightly bigger build as there will be a lot of shots where his arm will be around her or in close contact so we think that might also emphasise dominance and control.

Another character who features in the trailer is the mother of our main protagonist (the girlfriend) she will be:
-brunette (as this will make the audience relate her to the girlfriend immediately)
-also natural with minimal makeup.

We hope by following this guidelines we have put together, we will find the most suitable actors for our product.

Makeup Process

In order to capture our audience's attention straightaway we needed to make the injuries on the girls' faces as realistic as possible. We achieved this by using dark eyeshadow around facial features such as the eyes and the forehead.

These are a few practice shots:

What do people our age like to watch?

As one of our main members of our audience will roughly be round our age category we decided to ask some people various questions in order to make our final product more suitable. It also helped us understand how to attract possible future viewers and be able to meet their "movie needs":

Storyboard

In order to avoid errors or missing out shots, we created a storyboard to help us keep on track with our decided narrative structure. Here are a few images taken from our final storyboard:

Company and Logo Development

Today we researched into possible names and backgrounds for our company. These are our favourite ideas.

Narrative Theorists

Today we researched famous narrative theorists. This will help us in creating our product as it can influence us to follow guidelines and thoughts that have already been used by previous movies.

Film Posters Analysis

Today we looked at the conventions and expectations for a promotional film poster. We looked at the typical features such as release date and famous characters, but also what features could decrease audience interest such as dull colouring and 'spoilers'.

Narrative Decisions

Today we created 3 brief narratives which we believed would be a possibility for our product. We then decided on one which we believed would be the most successful.

Genre Theorists

In todays lesson we looked at a variety of genre theorist, which could possibly influence our decision on our trailer's plot and genre.

How Has Genre Changed Over Time?

In today's lesson we looked at how genre has developed and changed throughout time. We organised our research into three main categories; What Came Before, Technology and The Outside World.

These genres helped to see clearly, what various factors influenced genre to become what it is today.
